Lifting the deck is the wrong call when the pool shell itself is moving. The deck is following the pool, not the other way around, and the homeowner needs a pool contractor first. It is also wrong when coping shows differential movement relative to the bond beam (pool problem), when the deck slab has spalled or scaled deeper than 1/2 inch across most of its surface (replacement is the call), or when the deck has cracked into too many pieces to lift as a unit. Polyurethane foam injection on a pool deck uses two-part polyurethane resin pumped through 5/8-inch ports drilled in the deck slab on 4- to 6-foot centers. The resin expands 20 to 30 times its liquid volume, fills voids in the backfill around the pool, compacts loose loess or fine sand, and lifts the deck in measured increments. Foam cures in about 15 minutes per port; the deck is walkable the same day. The foam is inert, hydrophobic, and does not break down. It will not wash out or lose volume the way cement slurry can. Pool installations in this region sit in an excavated pit that is 4 to 8 feet wider than the pool shell on all sides. That over-dig is backfilled with the same loess or fine sand pulled out of the original excavation, compacted to residential standards rather than structural standards. Loess consolidates further over 5 to 25 years, especially after wet-dry cycles, and the deck slab on top drops 1 to 4 inches along the over-dig band. The rest of the yard sits on undisturbed soil and does not move. The differential is most visible at the deck-to-pool edge where the coping meets the slab.

When the inspection confirms the pool shell is stable, the deck lift does not affect the pool. The foam is injected into the backfill 2 to 6 feet below the deck and lifts the slab vertically; the pool sits on undisturbed soil at the bottom of the original excavation and is not loaded by the foam. Epp avoids injecting foam within 18 inches of the pool wall to keep lateral pressure off the shell. On the rare occasion an inspection finds the pool shell already moving, Epp stops and refers the homeowner to a pool contractor before any deck work. Lifting the deck on a moving pool can make the pool problem worse.
